LADA: Look, Assess, Decide, Act
LADA is a simple routine to help you spot hazards early and make safe decisions while driving.
1. Look
-
Keep scanning the road ahead, behind, and to the sides.
-
Check your mirrors regularly.
-
Watch for cars, pedestrians, cyclists, and changes in the road.
2. Assess
-
Think about what’s happening.
-
Is the hazard moving or still?
-
Which direction is it going?
-
How might it affect you?
3. Decide
-
Choose what to do next — safely and calmly.
You might need to:-
Slow down or stop
-
Change position
-
Carry on carefully
-
4. Act
-
Do what you’ve decided — smoothly and in control.
-
Use MSPSL (Mirror, Signal, Position, Speed, Look) when needed.
Example
You’re approaching a pedestrian crossing:
-
Look: You see someone near the crossing.
-
Assess: They look like they’re about to cross.
-
Decide: You plan to slow down and prepare to stop.
-
Act: You ease off the gas, cover the brake, and stop if they step out.
Practicing LADA helps you stay alert, think ahead, and drive safely every time. 🌟
